Just Returned from the New York Bridal Market

I just returned from the New York bridal market and want to share my experience. Lace gowns are still very important in slim silhouettes and more of them have wide straps and keyhole backs with very low backs. Ballgowns, fit and flares, and mermaids continue to be popular, so there is something for everyone. Textured and layered skirts are still being shown, and dresses with pickups have fewer of them, meaning less volume.

Maggie Sottero is offering some sleek and slim gowns reminiscent of the 30′s and 40′s, which are much lighter in weight and in fabric than some of their predecessors, although they continue to show textured and voluminous ballgowns. I am anxious to see what the response will be to some of their new looks, and I predict they will be a hit because of their lighter fabrics meaning lighter weight and they will have greater appeal for our mature brides. Beautiful!

The “Great Gatsby” movie has inspired vintage looks in both gowns and in headpieces. I saw lace close fitted caps and lace headbands worn on the forehead-metal headbands were being shown, but I found them to be very heavy and uncomfortable, although beautiful.

The New York Bridal Market is always exciting, but a bit overwhelming when you see so many gowns and headpieces and you have to carefully make your buying decisions. I do hope you like my choices!!!!!

Ian Stuart has earned many awards internationally for his brilliant and original creations, his use of color, and impeccable workmanship. I am so proud to have been selected to carry gowns from his latest collection, exclusively, in Michigan.

You are in for a feast for the eyes. I anticipate his gowns arriving in my store in February, although my favorite, called “Cartland”, will be arriving in early December. His gowns are amazing!! We have scheduled a trunk show in April and will post the information soon.
